Stress, anxiety and depression are the biggest cause of sickness absence in our society. Work related stress accounted for 45% of all working days lost to ill health in 2015/16. (
Bearing in mind the above and due to the popularity of Wendy the therapist at the recent staff engage day (27 July 2017) we have arranged for her to provide a number of sessions for staff who may be interested on Friday 10 November 2017 here at the university.

The sessions that Wendy will provide are 30 minutes at a discounted cost of £15 for any of the below treatments;


Reiki is Japanese for “universal life energy” and also describes a “hands on” natural healing system. It’s a simple, relaxing therapy that helps to reduce stress and anxiety by releasing blocked energy. A Reiki treatment feels like a wonderful warming radiance is flowing through and around you. Your body will relax and your natural healing process will kick in, helping to restore physical and emotional wellbeing. Reiki can be enjoyed by anyone in the course of their day to day life. It can also be used alongside other conventional or complementary treatment, providing emotional support during recovery.


Massage soothes and relaxes your body, providing relief from muscular tension and is a great way to rebalance the mind and body. Effective massage can relieve built up stress and tension in our muscles, improve circulation and stimulate the nervous system. Some people consider massage as indulgence or luxury, others view it as a regular, rewarding way to keep their body in good health.

Aromatherapy Massage – Aromatherapy massage uses essential oils for a relaxing and soothing experience. Essential oils are complex plant extracts which have different healing properties, such as calming, energising, decongestant and relaxant. An aromatherapy massage promotes wellbeing and restores harmony to the body, mind and soul.

Indian Head Massage – Indian head massage has been practiced in India for over a thousand years. Based on the ancient form of ayurvedic or “science of life” healing, it helps to release stress that has accumulated in the tissues, muscles and joints of the head, face, neck and shoulders.

Seated Acupressure

Seated Acupressure is based on a traditional Japanese massage technique called “anma” which translates to “press and rub”. It’s a simple, relaxing therapy that helps to reduce muscle tension and releases blocked energy by applying pressure to key points in the head, neck, shoulders and lower spine. Remaining fully clothed you’ll be seated on an ergonomic massage chair whilst I use my hands, fingers, thumbs, and elbows to apply pressure to over 60 pressure points. This relaxes muscles, increases blood circulation, stimulates nerve responses and helps to restore physical and emotional wellbeing.

Crystal Healing

Crystals are placed on or around energy points on your body called chakras. They absorb, focus, direct and diffuse our energy fields to induce deep relaxation, release stress and promote energy balance. Crystal healing can be used to complement other treatments such as Reiki and massage.
