Tom HalliganThe University of Bolton has organised a charity football match which will see staff lining up against students at the home of Bolton Wanderers.

Whites legend ‘Super’ John McGinlay will be manager/coach of the staff team for the game, which will be played at the University of Bolton Stadium on Wednesday May 8.

The match has been arranged as part of the deal with Bolton Wanderers to name the ground the University of Bolton Stadium.

Staff and students will be asked to pay a minimum donation (students £5 and staff £10) to play and the proceeds will be split between Bolton Wanderers Community Trust and the university’s Club Sports.

It will be free of charge for anyone who wants to watch.

Each team will have 20 players and there will be a ‘rolling substitutes’ system.

Tom Halligan, duty officer at Bolton One, said: “As the university has the opportunity to make use of the pitch, I thought it would be a great idea to enhance the student experience as well as giving staff the chance to play at the University of Bolton stadium and raise some money at the same time.

“The student team will be made up of first and second team players and I am sure they will have a lot of fun playing against staff.”

Tom added: “The whole idea is that it is an enjoyable afternoon for everyone and it is for charity as well.

“The university’s link with Wanderers is very exciting and I am sure that we will continue to work closely with the club.”

Kick-off is 14:00.

To register interest in playing or watching, there will be a sign-up sheet in the sports centre.
