Following our success in the TEF we are pleased to confirm that further to the online assessment that staff completed and the onsite assessment IIP have confirmed that we meet the requirements of the IIP standard at the “Accredited” level”.

Given we were assessed against the new and more robust IIP standard this is excellent news for us locally. However, we must not be complacent nor underestimate what we need to do in order to ensure that we have a successful outcome at the 12 month and 24 month stage IIP follow up visits.

IIP is a tool that we can use to help us to improve our organisational, financial performance and productivity. As we look to the future the feedback from this assessment gives us a platform to build on as part of our on-going ‘wilful institutional building’ agenda. We hope that we will be in a position to raise the bar and go for a higher level of recognition under IIP – perhaps Silver.

In light of this a number of areas have been identified for further work; management performance, recognition, building capability, change management and use of people based metrics.

The assessment identified the following institutional strengths; TIRI agenda understood, strong alignment against IIP and University Strategic Plan in some departments, focus on performance review, range of mechanism in place to inform, consult and involve staff, customer service excellence and continuous improvement agenda and shared values/ethos.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor George Holmes said “this is yet another fantastic achievement for the University. We have retained the standard since 2001 and Investors in People accreditation is a sign of a great employer and we should continue to be proud of what we do at our University”.

Our initial next steps include the following;

  • HR Business Partners will be speaking to Heads of Service / School over the summer about the key high level themes coming out from the online questionnaire – where seven or more team members had completed the questionnaire.
  • Employee Forum to be briefed at its next meeting.
  • The IIP Steering Group will also meet to review the University level feedback and develop some recommendations for the Executive Board to consider.

HR will be updating information held on developments here so please do keep an eye on progress.
