A former Chancellor of the University, the Rt Hon Sir Ernest Ryder, will take over the Mastership of Pembroke College Oxford this summer.

Sir Ernest is Chancellor Emeritus of the University, Honorary Professor of the University’s Law School and Patron of the University’s Centre for Contemporary Coronial Law and was Chancellor of the University from 2014 to 2017.

He has delivered a number of lectures at the University and there is a ‘Ryder Lecture’ named in his honour which is held annually at Bolton.

Sir Ernest is a distinguished member of the judiciary, who has also served the higher education sector and the wider community in a variety of capacities.

He will succeed Dame Lynne Brindley, who steps down at the end of June. Sir Ernest said he was “delighted and honoured” by the appointment.
