  • I’ve just started a 1000 mile cycle to work in aid of Derian House Children’s Hospice and Family Respite Care Centre. I live in Blackburn and work at the Institute of Management. It is quite a hilly journey both ways, from home to work and back – the return journey is some 630ft higher, or so Google tells me! Anyway, I’m cycling instead of driving, and donating the savings (which I will match too) to Derian House via a JustGiving page – justgiving.com/fundraising/martin-mcareavey

I hope to complete the challenge in Semester 1, which would mean around 37 round trips before mid January. It seems easier now whilst the sun is shining, but I’m sure it will look a lot more daunting come the darker days of winter, with horizontal rain and winds ahead each day. I’m determined to get it done though!

I’d be delighted if colleagues would help me to achieve my target, both in terms of miles covered and my goal for funds raise. Please do visit my justgiving page and honk if you see me pounding the roads through Belmont, Tockholes and beyond 🙂
