UTC Bolton logoDo you currently have a child in Year 8 or Year 9 at high school and do they feel ready for a different challenge?

As a member of University staff we wondered whether you might be interested in considering a place at UTC Bolton starting this September.

UTC Bolton provides outstanding technical and academic education where every student, through personalised learning and clear goals, will stretch their boundaries and learn more than they thought possible in order to create the next generation of scientists, healthcare practitioners, engineers and entrepreneurs.  We offer a unique ‘promise’ – a professional employment place, a university place or further learning for every student that successfully graduates, by ensuring that aspirations are brokered rather than just raised. Our three stranded curriculum approach is designed to deliver students who have the competitive edge over those leaving traditional schools with just GCSEs and A-Levels. This enables our students to take their place effectively within an ever changing and challenging world as a global citizen.

We leave nothing to chance. For example, we suspended our curriculum in February for all Year 12 students – in order to engage in a week long Careers Education Individual Advice and Guidance programme called ‘Build My Future’. UTC staff and students worked very closely with a team from All Together to compile a programme which incorporated an enterprise challenge, a wide range of masterclasses and presentations from visiting speakers including entrepreneurs, human resource professionals and Theresa Griffin (MEP for the North West of England), as well as an educational trip to ‘eon reality’ in Manchester. Students profiled their individual strengths and potential career options and received expert guidance on university choices, making employment applications, interview technique and CV writing. 100% of Year 12 students indicated that they would recommend the Build My Future conference to other students.

Thematic scenarios are used to develop competencies with skills over time whilst demonstrating the relevancy and importance of such skills within the workplace and society. For example, through the theme of ‘cardiology’ students worked with a leading cardiologist from a NHS Trust to acquired professional expertise in ECG traces, blood pressure measurements, Early Warning Scores and cardiovascular heart disease and its treatment. Students explore these themes using specialist suites that simulate professional working environments such as a hospital ward, pharmacy or dentist.

Our mantra is ‘Outstanding – everyone…everything…every time’. Nothing less is good enough for the students entrusted into our care.

If you are interested in joining UTC Bolton our next open day is on Saturday 25 June starting at 10:30am. There are also taster sessions available for your child starting at 10am.

The event will be hosted in the University Technical College Bolton, the Stoller Building, Deane Road, Bolton, BL3 5AG. Refreshments will be available upon arrival.

If you would like to reserve a place please visit the website www.utcbolton.org to book.

We look forward to welcoming you upon arrival.
