China delegationA delegation led by Vice President Prof Hui Jian from Jiangxi University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (JUTCM) with Deans of four colleges visited University of Bolton recently.

It is the third delegation visiting the University of Bolton from JUTCM, led by their President or VP in the past three years.

JUTCM is a comprehensive university located in Nanchang, capital city of Jiangxi province in East China. The university hosts around 20,000 full time students in various disciplines including business, medicine, pharmaceutical technology, and computing and with characteristic and strengths in medical background. The university also owns the China’s biggest pharmaceutical manufacturer Jiangzhong Pharmaceutical Group with an annual turnover of 5 billion RMB (approx. 550 million GBP) and two hospitals.

Approved by Chinese Ministry of Education, JUTCM has successfully recruited 83 students in 2015 and 77 in 2016 under the articulation agreement with University of Bolton and this will continue for another three years. These students will be prepared jointly by the two universities in China for their first three-year-study in China with expectation to progress to University of Bolton for their final year study of BSc Business Management. Prof JIAN expressed the ambition and commitment to facilitate as many of these students as possible to progress to the final year study at University of Bolton. He also hoped that two universities could expand the collaboration to other subject areas such as computing, to encourage more active student and staff mobility.

During the visit on 4 October Assistant Vice Chancellor of University of Bolton, Bill Webster, met the delegation. The University of Bolton is set to send its first flying faculty staff to JUTCM in the near future, to deliver the teaching and prepare students there with a better understanding and skills for UK degree studies. JUTCM is also expecting to send more students to study in University of Bolton in various subject areas for both degree studies and shorter terms such as the summer school.
