We start the switch over to the new University network on Monday 21 March. There may be some down time between 6pm and midnight Monday to Wednesday next week.

We are replacing the whole network over the coming weeks with new HP hardware. This will give a ten fold increase in available bandwidth across the University and increase our JANET connection from  1  to 10Gbits/s. We are also upgrading the internet and email security with state of the art Fortinet firewalls. We believe this will improve the performance of the network, reduce spam mail and speed up the transfer of large files across the network.

Work starts next week to switch over the core switches and firewalls. This work will take place in the evenings between 6pm and 12 midnight and there will inevitably be some loss of service at times.

From April to July we will then be replacing all the edge network that connects the computers and printers. This will also mean some possible disruption as we upgrade the equipment in 32 hub rooms. Some of this will be done out of term time and some out of hours to minimise the effect on business.
