Two brave sisters went on stage to collect an award from the University of Bolton in memory of their father who died of cancer part way through his degree course.
Darwecyn, aged seven and Tabba, eight, received a standing ovation during the moving presentation at a graduation ceremony in the Albert Halls, in Bolton Town Hall. Their father Benjamin Saygbe, who was known simply as Saygbe, was originally from Liberia and had been studying a degree course in community development and youth work. He was just 52 when he died.
His wife Nickema attended the ceremony with her daughters and said afterwards she was very proud of them.
“I feel a mixture of happiness and sadness. It is a shame that my husband isn’t here to collect his degree. He loved the university and the course. Today means so much. Getting this award makes me feel like his work has been accomplished.”
