On Wednesday 10 October the University of Bolton visited the Bolton Council of Mosques (BCoM) for the Madrasah Teachers conference.
Dr Sarah Telfer (Associate TIRI Professor and Operational lead for teacher Education) and Mohammed Sadiq (Assistant Teaching Professor and Programme Leader for Accountancy and Financial Management) gave a talk on the opportunities available to work in partnership with the local Bolton community and future plans to develop a long term relationship with BCOM.
BCOM represents 28 Mosques across the town representing 30,000 Muslims and serves over 6,000 pupils who attend Madrassa Schools at Bolton Mosques. Ibrahim Kala Chairman of BCoM commented – ‘We know how much the Muslim community in Bolton contributes to wider society. Our mission is to find out the issues affecting local Muslim people and to help solve them. We can do this through effective partnerships with local government and other key stakeholders such as the University of Bolton’.
‘We look forward to working with BCoM and are keen to support and add value to the excellent work local tutors do in the Madrassa’ said Assistant Teaching Professor and Head of the Teaching Excellence Network (TEN) at the university.
The university of Bolton collected over 250 expressions of interest for teaching training courses and are keen to promote the widening participation of teacher training courses and other opportunities in the local community.
