We are excited to announce that Bolton have made it through to the final round of voting to host two games for the Rugby League World Cup (RLWC) in 2021.
The proposal has seen RLWC organisers put Bolton’s application to the last stage of assessment to be a match host, team base camp and training venue.
The University of Bolton Stadium, home to Bolton Wanderers Football Club, is the venue in the running. With an official announcement due in January 2019, the people of Bolton will be eagerly awaiting to host a major sporting event, with the last one coming way back in 2002 for the Commonwealth Games.
The competition promises to be the biggest yet and includes the men’s women’s and wheelchair competitions which run simultaneously from 23 October to 28 November 2021. It sees 32 teams playing 64 games across 20 venues.
