Colleagues will recall that following a number of terrorism related incidents in the UK last year the University reviewed security arrangements at the University and commenced work to develop further proportionate measures to ensure our students, staffs and other stakeholders felt safe on campus.

Following the introduction of the compulsory wearing of identification badges the University is now introducing a planned further measure to reduce the porosity of the campus whilst at the same time not affecting legitimate access to buildings across the campus by those in our University community. Over the Easter period colleagues in our Facilities and Information Systems & Technology teams have been working on the installation of new access points. With this in mind during the course of next week the following doors will start (on a phased basis) to be accessible only by swiping your University identification card at entry (over the black access point) and either through the use of a push button or automatic door opening for exit. Each door has a green safety break glass adjacent to each door;

  • Post room
  • Ground floor external access to Z block
  • Glass sliding doors to Chancellors Mall adjacent to the chaplaincy (existing)
  • External entrance to I-Zone
  • Internal entrance to I-Zone
  • Entrance to D corridor
  • Entrance to A block
  • Exit to Christ Church Gardens car park
  • Exit B corridor
  • G block entrance
  • M block entrance

To ensure these changes are implemented smoothly all University colleagues are reminded of the need to wear their University identification badges.

Should you have any questions or problems with respect to the above new arrangements please feel free to contact a member of the Facilities team in the first instance.
