The Chaplaincy is here for all staff and students, those of faith and no faith, and can be found at the foot of the Eagle Tower near Café Athena. The Chaplaincy is open from 8.30-17.00 during term times. Here for prayer, reflection, meditation or just a place of calm and quiet to escape to. The Quiet Room is available to call in during opening hours unless booked for one of the events listed below.
Gill Smart is our co-ordinating chaplain. She is on the academic staff of the University and also an ordained Christian minister in the Church of England. We have chaplains and pastoral assistants representing Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam and Judaism. We can put you in contact with people of other faiths and belief systems too. Keep an eye on the notice board outside the Chaplaincy for details of all events.
Gill is usually in the Chaplaincy Office on:
Monday between 10.00 and 12.00;
Wednesday between 10.00 and 16.00;
Friday between 10.00 and 14.00.
During term time, Gill leads the following in the Quiet Room:
Morning Prayer on Tuesdays and Fridays from 08.30 – 08.45.
Holy Communion on Wednesdays from 12.35 – 13.00.
Two meditation sessions on Wednesday:
15 minute guided meditation 12.00-1215
Meditation and Stories’ in the Quiet room between 13.15 and 13.45.
The Prayer Room is open for Muslim Prayer when the Chaplaincy is open
Kelsang Tumo (a Buddhist Nun) runs drop-in meditation classes in the Quiet Room on Thursday from 12.30 – 112.45. The next sessions will be January 18th and 25th.
There is a Roman Catholic Chaplain available in the Chaplaincy on Tuesday 11.00-12.30. During Lent and Advent Roman Catholic Mass celebrated. Next mass will be on 21 February at 12.45
