As part of induction week the sports students were treated to a personal insight into what lies ahead when embarking on your studies at the University of Bolton.

Former Sports Development and Coaching student Mike Russell explained how he had progressed from studying at the University of Bolton to now working at Manchester City in the Community.

Mike said ‘Without the continued support and dedication of the staff at the University investing in my progress, I wouldn’t have been able to get such an amazing opportunity to work with a world-class sporting organisation’.

He continued to explain, that after graduating from his Sports Development and Coaching degree with first class honours, he has now enjoyed a year in industry working for Manchester City.

Mike added; ‘This placement opportunity has proved invaluable, it has helped me to gain real life experience. I’ve been lucky enough to be involved in every aspect of the club, ranging from working on community projects like the ‘Primary Stars’ and ‘Men’s Healthy Living’ campaigns to high profile kit launches, meeting the players and staff at the club.

Mike is now continuing his studies at the University by starting his PGCE so hopefully he can help the next generation benefit from his journey to start their own.
