On the 14th July the English department celebrated the success of their students at the graduation ceremony at Bolton Town Hall. This year there were six students graduating with first class honours: Alex Hughes, Sam Iqbal, Hannah Hatchman, Michaela Lee, Katie Hetherington and Charlotte Wilks. Programme leader for English, Jill Marsden, said: ‘We are absolutely delighted to see so many of our students graduating with first class honours. It reflects the hard work and dedication of our students throughout the course of the degree’. The first class students are preparing to enter careers in teaching and publishing and two are planning to go on to Masters programmes. Katie Hetherington said: ‘I enjoyed every single minute of the degree. Even when it was tough the end result was worth it! Fantastic teaching staff, fantastic students and a fantastic working environment. I would recommend it to anyone! (And I’m also really sad it’s over). I’ve made friends for life and I’ll never ever forget our wonderful experience.
It has been a tremendous year for English at Bolton. The programme has come top in the UK for student satisfaction in The Complete University Guide for the second year running. English also scored 100% for Student Satisfaction in the most recent National Student Satisfaction survey.
