Dr. Peter Swain and Dr. Robert Lewis, both Honorary  Research Fellows in the School of Sport  and Bio-Medical Sciences, have signed a book contract with Routledge on the history of modern football.

Dr. Swain, who completed his PhD at the University in 2009, has  gained a high profile as a revisionist historian, arguing that modern football was not a result of a handing-down process by public schoolboys, as historians had previously suggested, but formed and organized by working and lower-middle class people at a community level. This has led to an engaging academic debate in  which Dr. Swain has been at the forefront.
