The Investors In People (IIP) standard was developed in the 1990s, as a national framework aiming to improve organisational performance by linking people management practices to organisational goals. The IIP framework and associated standard has gone through a number of revisions and is now held by some 14,000 organisations. Most HEIs have now achieved the Standard and an increasing number have achieved accreditation beyond the standard level (to include some local HEIs).
The University first achieved accreditation back in 2001. Having more recently obtained the standard in January 2014, it is now due for re-accreditation this year – three years from the latest assessment.
As part of the reaccreditation process this year all employees will be asked to give their views and confidentially complete an IiP employee survey (IiP 40). The survey is managed by IiP and will be completed anonymously. The survey will be launched on 20 March 2017 and will be sent to all employees through an email link.
The questionnaire asks set questions (grouped in the following indicators; leading and inspiring people. living the organisation values and behaviours, empowering and involving people, managing performance, recognising and rewarding high performance, structuring work, building capability, delivering continuous improvement and creating sustainable success. Employees will be required to give ratings on a seven point scale (from strongly agree to strongly disagree).
There will also be an onsite visit from the IiP Assessor (taking place between 24 – 27 April 2017) and as part of this the assessor will hold short meetings with a representative sample of employees to explore the key themes further.

An IiP Steering Group has also been set up to help manage the process of reaccreditation, help to communicate progress and consider the feedback from IiP.
IiP is an important process for the University as we continue our journey of “”wilful institution building” and continuous improvement. The IiP process will enable us to gain information about what we do well and also on what further improvements we can consider.
