The University is delighted to announce that its BEng(Hons) Civil Engineering course has secured a five-year extension to its Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) accreditation.
The accreditation is the assurance that the University’s programme meets the quality standards established by the civil engineering profession and is recognised by the Engineering Council (EngC) – the body responsible for regulating the engineering profession within the UK.
For aspiring young engineers looking to progress to professional status, completing our JBM accredited BEng course along with our accredited MSc Civil Engineering course provides the route that many of our students take towards becoming a Chartered Engineer (CEng).
The extension represents a double success in Built Environment as the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) also accredited the Construction and Surveying courses for a further five years, along with five commendations.
‘I am delighted with this news as it allows us to continue to offer our BEng(Hons) Civil Engineering course in both full-time and part-time mode, as we have done successfully for more than 40 years,’ said Programme Leader for Civil Engineering, Dr. Paul McMahon.
‘Our courses continue to go from strength to strength and they are well respected by major employers locally, regionally and nationally.’
The JBM is made up of four professional bodies; The Institution of Civil Engineers, the Institution of Structural Engineers, the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, and the Institute of Highway Engineers.
Together they represent 100,000 of the world’s leading professional engineers and work together to strengthen links with universities and industry to ensure that formal educational programmes and workplace programmes are in place to develop professional engineers that will continue to provide a global contribution to sustainable, economic growth and ethical standards.
The JBM works closely with these four professional bodies and the Engineering Council when assuring the quality of output standards from all accredited courses
