We’re half way through and what a week we’ve had! Every lunchtime our Challenges have been testing your stamina, strength, dancing talent and guessing skills. And we’ve five more days of Challenges coming up so loosen up your lunchtimes and get into the Christmas Challenge spirit!

Starting with an invitation to Beat Brett – at table tennis – last Thursday’s call was answered by a game collection of students and staff all aiming to beat our resident expert, Brett Haslam at this high speed sport.

Last Friday’s Challenges tested your guessing skills. SFX Lecturer, Jack Myers estimated the number of sweets in our jar to be 623 – only three off the correct total of 620. And our cuddly toys found deserving homes with HR’s Simon Booth, student Samantha Green, and visitor Chong Qiu – who all guessed our teddies names correctly.

This week University Photographer Adrian Greenhalgh challenged you to join him on a cycle ride from Hollywood to Santa Monica on Monday. Adrian was joined on his two-hour journey by wandering stars from across the University.

Tuesday’s strength test challenged your grip. Our mighty winners, students Usman Mohammad and Aristos Michael gave impressive demonstrations, topping the table of over 50 contenders.

The Big Dance shimmied its way into the SLZ on Wednesday. Our enthusiastic participants learned street dance and Zumba moves along with Salsa and ballroom skills – all taught by our professional dance tutors. Drawing quite a crowd of spectators, our dancers all report having a fantastic time.

Thursday saw the return of our table tennis Champion who remains undefeated. Could you be the one to take his crown? It’s your last chance next week.

Today we asked you to channel your inner Mary Berry in our Decorate a Gingerbread Man Challenge. The event was such a big success we ran out of gingerbread men! Check our social media to find out who the winner was #DiamondChallenge.

So what’s in store for the remaining five days of Christmas Challenge?

  • Monday 12 December 12-2pm – I’m a student, get me out of here! Dare you hold our creepy crawlies?
  • Tuesday 13 December 11am-3pm – Reindeer Rodeo – how long can you hang on?
  • Wednesday 14 December 12.30-2pm – THE BIG SING
  • Thursday 15 December 12-2pm – Beat Brett at Table Tennis – third time lucky?
  • Friday 16 December 12-2pm – Can you achieve the fastest lap in our motor racing simulator?

All events are free to take part in. Come to the SLZ to join in. All donations will go to the DofE to benefit young people in our region.
