shoebox

As you are aware, the University is participating in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Diamond Award Challenge to celebrate 60 years of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme and a number of activities and challenges have been launched across the University.  One very special initiative is that the University will be providing homeless people of the Bolton area with a  “shoebox” or bag of small but useful items that they may otherwise struggle to buy.

If you would like to make a contribution, a list of suitable items is provided below.  These can be left at collection points located at Main Reception (Senate House), E4 (Senate House),  the Student Centre (Chancellor’s Mall), or Queen’s Specialist Building Reception.  The items will then be sorted into boxes or bags ready for Christmas distribution.

Suitable clothing items for donation (new please):

  • Socks
  • Gloves
  • Hat
  • Scarf
  • Fold-up cagoule/rain cape

Other suitable items for donation:

  • Chocolate bar/sweets/mints (no nuts)
  • Anti-bacterial handwash
  • Wet wipes
  • Tissues (pocket size)
  • Deodorant
  • Lip balm
  • Toothpaste
  • Toothbrush
  • Sanitary products
  • Pen/notepad
