TedxThe University has been granted a TEDx licence to hold the first conference of its kind in Bolton. The TEDxUniversityofBolton will bring together innovative thinkers from across the University and larger community to explore ideas for our collective future.

The event is organized by the University and the Students’ Union and we need some help to identify students who can work with us to deliver this initiative.

For those of you who don’t know, TED is a non-profit organisation devoted to ‘Ideas Worth Spreading’, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Visit www.TED.com to see some of their amazing talks.

The conference will be held on Tuesday 8 March and the 2016 theme is ‘Crossing Paths – Intersecting Ideas’.  It encompasses a broad range of ideas and approaches which represent some of TED’s core values of forward-thinking, innovation and inspiration. The full press release regarding student recruitment is available at http://www.tedxuob.com/press.

Please can you help us to identify students who would be good at:

  • Helping us run the event. So we’re looking for students who can do everything from sell tickets to being the marketing director or even the set designer. Can you please forward this email to any students who you think would be appropriate? They can find out more and apply here:  http://www.tedxuob.com/join-the-team/4591192209
  • Speaking at the conference! One of the speaking slots has been reserved for a current University of Bolton student. We’re running a competition to identify which student should take this place up. If you know a student (either UG or PG) that is doing some interesting research, or is a particularly good speaker, can you please tell them about this opportunity?  here:  http://www.tedxuob.com/speakers/4591192196. The student will be asked to present their talk informally to a small group on the 4th or 5th of February and that group will decide the winner of the competition. The winning student will be given plenty of support to ensure they are ready to present.

We welcome applications for both of these opportunities from students of all backgrounds and degree levels.

If you have any questions please either visit www.tedxuob.com or email ku.ca1576390696.notl1576390696oB@TX1576390696E6ME1576390696.

Best wishes,

The TEDxUniversityofBolton organising committee
