Sports rehab student Olivia Ratcliffe is a climbing instructor with our Sports Centre who is aiming to conquer Everest for charity – without ever leaving Bolton One! She will be tackling 250 ascents of our climbing wall over 15 hours, aiming to raise £300 for cancer charities. There’s also a raffle on the day – with family climbing experience prizes, so if you can go along and cheer Olivia on she would very much welcome our support. You can buy a raffle ticket while you are there or donate at www.justgiving.com/Olivia-Ratcliffe1
Fr Reginald Amanze will be holding a Service for Advent on Thursday 03 December at 12.45pm in the Quiet Room. All welcome.
This event takes place at Bolton Library and starts at 7pm.
Born in Sheffield, Jo Bell was originally an archaeologist. In the early 2000s she reversed the work/hobby balance of archaeology and poetry, and began devising, programming and running poetry events. For six years Jo was director of the UK’s National Poetry Day. She is now a Trustee and erstwhile programmer at Ledbury Poetry Festival, and proud to be the UK’s first Canal Laureate, appointed by the Poetry Society and the Canal and River Trust. She lives on a narrowboat [NB not a barge] currently in the English Midlands. Her latest book is Kith (Nine Arches Press, 2015).
She is probably best known, however, for her poetry news on Facebook and Twitter @Jo_Bell. Follow Jo for news of competitions, poetry stories and dozens of UK events including her own.
The event also includes an open mic slot for students and local writers to read their work, and an announcement of the winners of the University of Bolton poetry competition that the University launched for National Poetry Day this year in partnership with the library.
If you want to book a slot for the open mic session please email firstname.lastname@example.org. To spectate, just come along on the night. This event is free.
This celebration in words and song will take place in the Social Learning Zone on Thursday 10 December from 12.45pm to 1.15pm, followed by festive refreshments. All very welcome.
